Other sights around Rome

Of course we were good tourists and we actively sought out good sites and good eats.

"Veni, Vidi, Visa: I came. I Saw. I Did a Little Shopping."

On the Fourth of July, we were feeling a little homesick with no fireworks, or sack races, or watermelons. Along with two other flags, we saw a U.S. flag flying proudly outside someone's house. We stopped to sing "God Bless America".
We toured the Christian [catacombs] of St. Callixtus. In four levels, the early Christians had buried almost 500,000 people including nine popes there. You can see several open crypts here above our heads.
Our group makes its way though the narrow passages of the catacombs.

Ray relaxes in the idyllic alfalfa fields above the catacombs.

We join thousands of other Catholics in an audience with the [Pope].
