After Rome, we headed toward [Assisi] where St. Francis was born, lived, and was buried. St. Claire of Assisi lived here too.

Find out more about the life of St. Claire of Assisi by listening to this audio biography brought to you by the Eternal Word Television Network. You will need the RealMedia player.

Our tour bus was a bit more spacious and roomy than the municipal buses in Rome.
Since Assisi is a small, ancient city, the roads were too small for the bus. We had to get out of the bus at the city gates and walk to our hotel.

After four days we headed to Assisi, Italy (St. Francis) where we stayed for two nights. Assisi is a peaceful little town overlooking a great valley. I will visit Assisi again someday, hopefully with the same group. We did a great deal. We hiked to a medieval castle and explored it, had prayer services in a small amphitheater and chapel, explored the cobblestone-road town by foot, hiked to St. Francis' secluded mountain prayer "get away" and had Mass (there is a chapel there now), visited where St. Francis lived, and had Mass in the church where he is buried. A few of us visited his father's shop where he spent a lot of time as a child. As an added benefit, some of us saw/heard a "world-class" jazz concert. We just happened to be in Assisi for their annual World Class Jazz Festival-musicians from all over Europe come to play.
