Where in the world did we
go?
This map illustrate our international travels.
Going from US to Africa, the flight is a 15 hour non-stop flight.
Due to the altitude of Johannesburg Airport, it is impossible
to fly non-stop back to the US with the Airbus A340-600. We needed
to stop at Dakar, Senegal for fuel.

The map below shows our travels in South
Africa. Most international flights arrive in Johannesburg. After
arriving in Johannesburg, we took a de Havilland Dash-8 to Richards
Bay where we then took an hour-long car ride through Hluhluwe
to Zulu Nyala. We took a day trip to Tembe Elephant Park near
the border of Mozambique. For the second part of the trip, we
flew back to Johannesburg where we then took a hour car drive
south just over the border to Free State where we stayed near
Parys at the Savannah. Mike and Pieter took a day trip west to
Kimberly, the big diamond-mining town.
